Moyola Park welcomed Donegal Celtic to the Mill Meadow on Saturday for a Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League game and in the opposing dugout as a coach was our former player Mark Clougerty.
The first chance of the game fell to the home side in the 6th minute when a turn and shot from Taggart was blocked and three minutes later McCauley pulled off a great save from Monaghan following a corner on the right. The 14th minute saw a free kick from Forrest into the area missed by everyone and cleared by the DC defence. A minute later Burns got booked for encroaching at a free kick from Rafferty. The 18th minute saw Paul find Taggart and his shot was saved by McIlhone and two minutes later a free kick from McAllister was headed wide by McQuillan.
Moyola continued to push forward and Paul had a shot saved in the 22nd minute and the 28th minute saw Paul release Young on the right and his cross was headed straight at McIlhone Rafferty. With fifteen minutes left in the first half Paul hit the crossbar and the resulting shot from Young was blocked. Three minutes later Monaghan had a shot well saved by McCauley. The home side opened the scoring in the 38th minute when a ball to Paul on the left was held up and his pass inside to Taggart who fired a great shot past McIlhone. With five minutes left a ball through to Rafferty was well gathered by McIlhone and with the game nearing the end of the first half, Brady was shown a straight red card for the visitors following a challenge with McAllister.
The home side had the first chance of the 2nd half with Rafferty shooting straight at McIlhone in the 46th minute and then both Rafferty and Taggart shot over when they should have at least hit the target. The home side extended their lead in the 51st minute when everyone stopped apart from Paul and he fired the ball past McIlhone. Ten minutes after the 2nd goal a ball from Rafferty on the left found Paul inside and he rolled the ball through McIlhone’s legs for his second and the home sides third. The visitors made a change in the 66th minute with McCloy replacing and a minute later McCauley saved following a challenge from Monaghan.
The 72nd minute saw Monaghan head wide for the visitors and the home side made their first change four minutes later with Robinson replacing Graham and the 77th minute saw Monaghan shoot wide and the visitors continued to push for a goal and two minutes later Ritchie had an effort saved by McCauley. The 80th minute saw McAuley shoot wide and three minutes later at the other end Monaghan had his header saved by McCauley. With five minutes left Paul cut inside to score his third and two minutes later he made it 5-0 with his 4th of the game following a pass from Robinson.
