Moyola Park welcomed St. Patricks YM to the Mill Meadow on Saturday in the 3rd Round of the Match Intermediate Cup hoping to get through to the 4th Round. The home side had scored 11 goals and conceded 1 in the previous two rounds against Bangor Amateurs and Albert Foundry with leading goal scorer Tiarnan Rafferty scoring six goals in these games.
The home side started off stronger with the first chance coming only 3 minutes into the game from a cross into the box from Forrest headed on by Rafferty but goes slightly high. St.Patricks started to push forward but nothing past the hands of Moyola Park’s Farniok. Half an hour into the game, Rafferty had a shot on the edge of the box but the visitor’s keeper pulled off a great save to deny Rafferty from scoring. Five minutes later, Moyola had another chance at goal from a shot from Paul which hit of the cross bar and went high. With five minutes to go until half time, Rafferty was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot, awarding the home side a penalty. Rafferty stepped up to take the penalty and nets it in nicely to put the home side 1-0 up. Minutes later the visitors get back into the game with an equaliser on the break, 1-1. The last few minutes of the first half saw the home side take the lead once again from a free kick taken by McAuley into the box where McIlhatton was there to head it in to give the home side the lead going into the second half and his first goal since returning to the club from Ballymena United.
Minutes into the second half, the visitors were awarded a penalty and netted it in to make the score all equal again. With an hour of the game gone, Rafferty was brought down inside the box for the second time and the referee pointed to the spot. Rafferty stepped up to take it, netting it in to extend the home side’s lead to 3-2. With fifteen minutes left on the clock, the visitors were reduced to ten men and Moyola continued to push forward looking for more goals in the game. 80 minutes into the game, saw a great run from McIlhatton and great play from Rafferty to McCann who takes a shot and knocks it in to the top corner of the net. Moyola were sitting with a comfortable 4-2 lead with 10 minutes remaining. A few minutes later, Moyola were awarded a free kick at the side of the box. McCann stepped up to take the free kick, into the feet of McQuillan who tapped it into the net to extend the scoreline to 5-2. The last kick of the game came from the home side with a cross into the box from McIlhatton to the feet of Rafferty who finishes well and give him his hattrick of the day. The scoreline finished 6-2 to the home side and will see Moyola travel to Grove Utd in the 4th Round on Saturday 10th February.

Moyola are back in action next Saturday 3rd February with a home game against Portstewart FC in the League with a 3pm kick off.
