Match Report

Portstewart continued their strong start to the season with a Saul McCaughan inspired defeat of Moyola Park at Mullaghcall.

The Seahawks might have gone in front early on when the lively Joel Bradley cut into the box from the left before being impeded, resulting in referee Kyle Barr point to the stop. However Moyola keeper Marcin Farniok saved well from James Peden’s penalty to keep the scores level.

The breakthrough finally came on 33 minutes. A ball from Lee Lindsay was flicked on by Luke McDowell to McCaughan at the edge of the box who calmly slotted past Farniok.

The second half brought a sustained period of Portstewart dominance as they pressed for the elusive second goal. A foul on Richard Vauls provided the catalyst for Portstewart from the resulting James Peden free kick, John Watt rose highest and headed across goal.

The predatory McCaughan met the flight of the ball and headed home at the far post in the 83rd minute.

Moyola where reduced to 10 men in the 88th minute when a succession of fouls left the referee with no option but to produce a second yellow card to Oran McAuley.
