Match Report

Moyola Park travelled to Wilgar Park to play against last year`s championship 1 side, Dundela.
Both sides were keen to get off to a good start, and it was Dundela who almost took the lead in the second minute when Neall just shot wide for Dundela. It was quite obvious from the opening minutes that this was going to be an open game. Moyola almost took the lead in the 6th minute when Chris Dowie struck from 18 yards and the ball cannoned of the goalkeeper`s right hand post. Moyola began to dominate and various chances fell to Moyola but the chances went a miss. Dundela almost took the lead when Knipe hit a terrific shot from 20 yards and the ball came off the Moyola post and went behind for a goal kick. There were strong appeals from the Dundela players when the ball appeared to strike the arm of one of the Moyola defender`s arm inside the penalty box in the 31st minute,  but the referee instead awarded a free kick to Moyola for a push on the back of the defender.   Moyola finally took the lead in the 35th minute when they were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. Nicky Black took the free kick and the ball was met brilliantly by the head of McIllhattan, the ball rattled the underside of the cross bar and bounced over the line.

The second half started off pretty much the way the first half had went with half chances falling to both sides. Moyola almost doubled the lead in the 60th minute when Magill had a shot cleared off the line. As Dundela began to push forward for the equalizer, more and more space was opening up for the Moyola attacking players to exploit. The Dundela defense failed to deal with a long hopeful ball in the 69th minute, and the ball fell to Chris Dowie to finish and make it 2-0 to Moyola. Then just two minutes later the Dundela defender fouled Magill inside the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and awarding Moyola a penalty kick. Chris Dowie planted the ball on the spot and calmly converted from 12 yards to make it 3-0 to Moyola.  Dundela  pushed on to try a get what would have been a consolation goal but the Moyola defense stood strong and came away with a well deserved 3 points.
