Moyola Park welcomed Annagh United to the Mill Meadow on Saturday for a Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League game. The home side had been on a recent run of good results with seven wins and a draw in the last eight games. The visitors came into the game having been busy with the signings of Mark McAllister, Scott McCordick and Jamie Quinn.
The first chance of the game fell to the home side in the 2nd minute when Taggart found Rafferty and his shot was saved by the visiting keeper. The home side opened the scoring a minute later when a long ball into the box and shot from close range deflected off a Annagh United defender and lands in front of Rafferty who controls and finishes from close range to score his 20th goal of the season. Moyola Continue to pressure Annagh defence and the 9th minute saw Taggart cross ball into box but goes wide. Moyola continued to attack and the 16th minute saw Graham head wide following a cross into the box and six minutes later at the other end McCauley gathered a dangerous cross into the box by the visitors.
The 27th minute saw McAllister run towards goal and pass an excellent ball through to McCann in the box but his shot is saved by keeper. The visitors should have equalised a minute later when they had time on the ball inside the area however they failed to finish. The 34th and 38th minutes saw Young have shots well saved by the visiting keeper. Annagh turned up the pressure towards the end of the first half but couldn’t find an equaliser. The last chance of the first half fell to Taggart however his shot was saved.
Both teams sought the first goal in the second half with Annagh coming very close on the 60th minute with a corner headed well towards goal only for McAuley to tip it onto the cross bar. Moyola then tested the Annagh defence with their goal keeper making two saves in quick succession. It was in the 87th minute that Annagh took their chance with a long range effort from Rea that went past McCauley for the equaliser. Moyola quickly pressed forward after the equaliser and after an overhead kick from Rafferty struck the post, McAuley was there to score for the second game in succession and seal the three points and make it six wins in a row in all competitions.
