Moyola Park 3 – McCann, Rafferty (p), Hudson
Moyola Park returned to league action on Saturday when they travelled to Seaview to play Newington in the Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League. The home side started the game with four players suspended and Moyola had Doey unavailable and Paul, McCartney, McNamee and McWhirter missing through injury.
The first chance of the game fell to the home side when a dangerous ball in from McDonnell in the 3rd minute was held by McCauley. The next notable action was ten minutes later when McCann cut inside and saw his shot saved by Smyth. Three minutes later a ball into Scollay was blocked by McAllister and the 18th minute saw a great cross from B O’Neill for the home side held by McCauley. The home continued to push forward and McCauley was called into action again in the 21st minute when he pulled off a great save. Newington where playing some good football on the 3g surface and Hudson cleared a cross from Hanvey in the 22nd minute.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when good work from McAuley found McCann through on goal and he fired a great finish past Smyth. With five minutes left in the first half Scollay hit his free kick straight at McCauley and a minute later McDonnell hit a shot from long range also straight at McCauley and this was the last action of the first half with the visitors going into the changing rooms with a 1-0 lead.
The first action of the second half saw Niblock from the home side fire over in the 49th minute and six minutes later a corner for Newington was headed wide by Gilgunn. Moyola extended their lead in the 56th minute when a ball from Taggart down the left to McCann saw the striker cut inside and he was subsequently brought down and the referee pointed to the spot of which Rafferty fired into the back of the send while sending the Smyth the wrong way to score his 14th goal of the season. The 59th minute saw the first booking of the game when B O’Neill was shown a yellow for a foul on McAllister.
Moyola extended their lead again in the 61st minute when a free kick from McCann on the right found Hudson at the back post and he headed back across the goal and inside the far post much to the delight of the management team who did a jig on the touchline. The home side made a double change two minutes later with K O’Neill and Morrison replacing McAuley and Rafferty. The referee reached for his cards again in the 72nd minute when he booked McAllister for kick the ball away. The home side made their final change in the 73rd minute with Donnelly replacing Hanvey.
The home side thought they had got a consolation goal in the 77th minute when B O’Neill hit a fantastic free kick off the underside of the bar and the danger was cleared. The third and final booking of the game came in the 79th minute when Gilgunn was shown a yellow for a foul on McCann. The Moyola forward picked himself up and was soon in action when a he received a pass from Young however his shot was saved by Smyth. With ten minutes left McFall crossed to Scollay and he fired his shot just wide of McCauley’s front post. The same player had another effort saved by McCauley two minutes later.
The visitor’s made their first change of the game in the 84th minute with Robinson replacing McCann and a minute later McCauley was in action again when he pulled off another good save. The last chance on goal came with three minutes left when Rafferty fired over for the visitors and they made their second change in the 89th minute with reserve team player Agnew coming on for his debut replacing Young.
This was a great all round team performance from the visitors with Hudson standing out with some vital clearances in the first half and his header securing the three points with the third goal. It was also a successful return to the starting lineup for McCann as he scored the first goal, was brought down for the penalty and his free kick found Hudson for the third.

Moyola are back to cup action on Saturday when then travel back to Belfast to play Albert Foundry in the Intermediate Cup at Paisley Park with a 1:30pm kick off.
