Moyola Park travelled to the historic village of Hillsborough on Saturday to play Northern Amateur Football League 1B side Downshire YM in the 2nd round of the Tennent’s Irish Cup. This was the first time that the Castledawson side have played in both Hillsborough and also their opponents. Moyola Park manager Mervyn Pattison gave a first start to Jack Graham after international clearance was received this week and also started with Farniok in goal for his first start of the season.

The home side opened the scoring in the 20th minute when a free kick by Rafferty into the box found Paul and he tapped the ball into the net. Four minutes later a good effort from Hudson was blocked and there was Rafferty with an easy tap in to put the visitors 2-0 up. The home side had most of the early possession and the 29th minute saw a good run from McCartney, however his resulting shot went over the bar.

With just over ten minutes left in the first half a great effort by the home side, however the shot went slightly high over the bar and Moyola extended their lead a minute later when great play in the 18 yard box resulted in an own goal to give Moyola a 3-0 lead. The visitor’s finished the first half strongly and went in 4-0 up when Taggart scored in the 39th minute following a pass from Paul.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side in the 50th minute when they were reduced to ten men and the 54th minute saw Paul shoot narrowly over from the edge of the box. Two minutes later McCartney delivered a good ball into the box where Taggart finished to score his second and the visitor’s fifth. Downshire got a consolation goal in the 60th minute when a great shot from just outside the box flew into the top corner.

With twenty five minutes left on the clock a great run from Young saw the midfielder shoot into the bottom corner with a great finish to make the score 6-1 and the 78th minute saw substitute Robinson make it 7-1. The 80th minute saw the visitor’s extend their lead when Taggart scored his third with a great finish to make it 8-1.

The 82nd minute saw great play between Rafferty and Robinson to see Robinson get his 2nd of the game to make it 9-1 to the visitors. With five minutes left a great finish by Forrest saw the visitors go into double figures and record a 10-1 victory.
