Moyola Park welcomed league leaders Limavady United to the Mill Meadow on Saturday in a NIFL Premier Intermediate League game. This was the first of the post split fixtures with the home side looking to secure as high a finish as they can. All present held a minutes silence for our former secretary Rhonda McClelland who sadly passed away this week.
The first chance of the game fell to the visitors with C Harkin shooting wide in the 9th minute. The next action saw the visitors reduced to ten men in the 12th minute when Beggs found Rafferty who was through on goal and as he got to the ball first to go around Wells he was brought down just outside the box and was shown a straight red card. The visitors had the option of substitute keeper Kelly on the bench and he replaced C Harkin.
With the short delay the next action was in the 25th minute with Rafferty firing his free kick just wide. The 33rd minute saw Owens have s shot saved by Farniok in the home goal. The 40th minute saw a long ball controlled by Rafferty and passed to Taggart, however he shot wide. The 44th minute saw McCready cut inside and his shot was blocked by McAllister and Forrest was booked. A minute later Owens cross was headed wide by Carlin at the back post.
The first action of the second half saw a dangerous cross on the left from McFadden, saved by Farniok with McAuley clearing the danger. The 55th minute saw a long ball find Hume however; he shot over the home goal. The 60th minute saw the visitors awarded a free kick following a challenge by McAuley and Owens fired just over.
The 63rd minute saw a corner on the left from Hassan elude everyone and Rafferty somehow line and he pulled it back only to see Taggart miss the ball completely. Moyola continued to push to find the breakthrough and Paul found himself in front of goal only to shoot wide. The 67th minute saw a run and cross from Owens towards the back post missed by McCready. The visitors where pushing forward and Owens saw his effort saved by Farniok.
With 20 minutes left on the clock the referee booked McCloskey for the visitors and two minutes later the home side made their first change with McCann replacing Paul. The 77th minute saw Rafferty open the scoring when he shot into the top corner much to the delight of the home crowd. Four minutes later Rafferty fired a free kick off the post and the ball was cleared and the 83rd minute see the home side double their lead when a long ball found McCann and he lifted the ball over Kelly. With 5 minutes left McKeever was booked and the home side made their second change in the 87th minute with Mullan replacing McAuley. With the game in injury time McCready scored inside the box to make it 2-1.
