On Saturday, Moyola took on Dundela in the NIFL Premier Intermediate League at a sunny Mill Meadow. Moyola were eager to bounce back after a disappointing result on Tuesday night against Limavady.
Both sides came out fighting to try and bag a gal. First few minutes into the game Dundela’s Jamie Jackson shot wide after receiving a cross from a corner. Moyola then had a cross in from Harris but Dundela’s keeper caught it nicely to deny a goal. 18 minutes into the first half, Moyola Park’s Steven McQuillan gave away a free kick on the edge of the box, Dundela’s Steven McCain stepped up to take the free kick however Farniok made a great save to keep the score line 0-0. Dundela were pushing at Moyola to try and edge that bit closer to scoring. 22 minutes into the first half, a deflected shot from outside the box which lands in front of Dundela’s Karl Devine who immediately shoots and scores to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Moyola bounced back with a great shot from outside the box by Kyle Beggs but the keeper made a great save to deny him from scoring. With 5 minutes remaining to half time, Moyola’s Craig McAllister provided a fast and low ball which was met by Tomas McCann with a diving header which went straight to Dundela’s keeper. Moyola looked like they were getting closer to finding an equaliser.
Dundela came out in the second half looking to hold on to their 1-0 lead advantage over Moyola but Moyola were hoping to find an equaliser to get them back into the game. 3 minutes into the second half, Dundela were awarded a corner which went straight into the box and a free header by an unmarked player to double Dundela’s lead to 2-0. Moyola now had a lot of work to do to try and get back in it. 5 minutes later, Moyola we’re awarded a corner at the other end which fell to Jason Paul who finished well to get Moyola back in the game, 2-1 now to the visitors. Moyola now started to push forward at Dundela, a free kick from Moyola’s Craig McAllister into the box but just missed from McIlhatton. Moyola was dominated the game hoping to find another goal to make the score line equal. 18 minutes into the second half, Moyola’s Tiarnan Rafferty breaks away from Dundela’s defence and with the keeper to beat, he is brought down inside the box by Dundela’s Keeper and the referee awards the home side with a penalty and see’s Dundela’s Alan Blaney receive a yellow. Rafferty stepped up to take the penalty and calmly put it in the back of the net to make the scoreline 2-2, what a game this had turned out to be. A few minutes later, Beggs passed the ball on the wing to Tomas McCann who runs straight towards the box where Rafferty is there to take over and scores to get his second goal of the game and to see Moyola now winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down. With only a few minutes remaining, Dundela’s Jordan Morrison had a shot taken from far away from goal and goes wide; this was about the last kick of the game. The referee blew his whistle and Moyola were relieved to get the 3 points after trailing from 2-0 down.
