Portstewart 0 Moyola Park 1
Moyola Park travelled to Mullaghacall on Saturday to take on Portstewart in a Championship 2 game looking to build on last week’s win against Ballymoney United. Manager Mervyn Pattison started with new signings Healy and Black on the bench and recent signings Wilkinson and Gray in the starting eleven.
Moyola captain Steven McQuillan lost the toss and this saw his side play into a strong wind. The first chance fell to the visitors when Walls and Stewart combined down left which saw Stewart pull the ball back to Dowie who lost footing at vital moment leaving Madison with an easy save to make. Moyola’s recent signing from Ballyclare Comrades Adam Grray was controlling the midfield for Moyola and nearly on a few occasions played Wilkinson and Lucas in. In the 40th minute Campbell whipped in a dangerous free kick for the home side, but none of his team mates got on the end of the ball. With the first half coming to a close the home side broke down the left and the ball was cut back for a shot on goal, only to see McQuillan make an excellent block and prevent a goal.
With the teams turning around for the second half which meant Moyola had the wind advantage, they put a lot of pressure on the home side with both Wilkinson and Gallagher having good efforts saved by Maddison. Midway through the second half, the visitors broke the deadlock when a free kick by McAllister was placed into the net by Robbie Lucas. Portstewart pushed for an equaliser but Moyola held on to claim their second win in successive games.
This was a great 3 points for the visitors as Portstewart is always as hard place to go and the home side have been going well as of late.
