Newington Youth 2 Moyola Park 0
Moyola Park on Saturday travelled to Seaview to play against Newington Youth hoping to continue their good form following their mid-week cup win against Donegal Celtic.
Injury had ruled out Moyola Park`s regular goalkeeper Farniok, so there was a call up for young goalkeeper Aaron Cassidy.
The game started off with both sides being wasteful with their possession of the ball which resulted in very few chances in the opening stages of the match. Chris Dowie thought he had given Moyola Park the lead in the 15th minute with a terrific shot but the player was deemed to be in an offside position and the goal did not stand. Newington started to take control of the game and they took the lead in the 35th minute when Rafferty rifled the ball home from six yards following good work from McFall and it was 1-0 to Newington. Newington almost doubled their lead in the 41st minute but for a terrific block from McQuillan which deflected the ball behind for a corner kick.
The second half began with Moyola Park keen to improve from their first half display. Moyola almost got themselves level when a Black free kick was met by McIllhattan, but his shot cannoned of the cross bar. Moyola desperately tried to push for the equalizer with the Moyola Park manager looking to his bench to inspire some energy and bring them back into the game. Moyola Park huffed and puffed without really creating any real chances and it was really no surprise when Newington doubled their lead. McFall burst through the Moyola Park midfield and unleashed a low drive from 25 yards which found the corner of the net leaving Cassidy in the Moyola Park goals no chance. Newington almost added a third but for a tremendous save from Cassidy. Moyola Park pushed on putting pressure on the Newington back line creating a few half chances but failing to really trouble Smyth in the Newington goal. Newington held on for a deserved 3 points.
