Moyola Park Association Football Club Weekly notes - Monday 31st August 2009
Ladbrokes.com Championship 2 League Cup
Moyola Park made the short journey to Fortwilliam Park on Saturday for a First Round game in the League Cup and by the 12th minute the game was over as a contest with Tobermore United having taken a three goal advantage. Sloppy defending by the visitors allowed Johnny Law’s team to go ahead as early as the 3rd minute. The second goal followed a few minutes later as a result of yet more lacklustre defending and in the 12th minute Tobermore scored a third with the Moyola Park side seemingly still back in the dressing room. In the final minute of the first half a penalty kick was awarded for an infringement by Paul McIvor, the ball being slotted into the corner of the net past the outstretched arms of Martin Rea. Conor McKenna replaced Ryan Leacock for the start of the second half. Moyola adopted a much more positive approach to the game in the second half but it was very much a case of too little, too late following the first half mugging. Tobermore found the Moyola Park net once more towards the end of the half to add further to a day of frustration for the visiting team. Jody Shiels replaced Eoghan Kelly in the closing minutes in an attempt to conjure up a consolation goal. However Tobermore Keeper Sammy Foster had an easy ride for the full 90 minutes. It was a day that the Moyola Park management team, players and supporters will want to forget.
Fixtures
Saturday 5th September 2009 – Craig Memorial Cup Round One
Oxford United Stars -v- Moyola Park @ 2.30pm
This is an important fixture for Moyola Park and a quick opportunity to restore some pride after the humiliating 5-0 defeat by Tobermore United. However Oxford will be glad of the opportunity to attempt to take the scalp of a Championship 2 team following their failure to gain admission to the competition as Derry City Council couldn’t grant them guaranteed use of The Brandywell for three years due to an Act of Parliament. The Moyola Park side will need to come sharply out of the starting blocks and take the game to their opponents to avoid successive cup defeats.

Mill Meadow – Correct Footwear
As you all are aware, Moyola Park FC will be moving into our new stadium at the Mill Meadow in late September or October of this year. The surface that we will use for training and playing all our games on is a FIFA 2* Astroturf pitch.
As the new surface is Astroturf, the company which is laying the pitch, Pride Sports & Leisure have recommended that all players using the pitch only use moulded/plastic football studs and moulded/plastic blades, and that metal blades and metal studs will not be permitted.
Please note that anyone who turns up to play in metal blades or studs will not be allowed to enter the playing surface.
Condolences
Everyone at the club wishes to express our deepest sympathy to the Devlin Family, Hillhead and the entire family circle of Hugh Devlin who died last week in San Francisco. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barney, Barry, Danny and the rest of the family.
