Limavady United 3 (Jennings, Mullan, McClelland) Moyola Park 2 (Dowie 2)

On a wintry day at Limavady Showgrounds it was the home side which came out on top by the odd goal in five. Despite the difficult conditions, both underfoot and overhead, the two sides played attractive football. Limavady’s player-manager Paul Owens had a free kick superbly saved by Marty Farniok but from the subsequent corner kick Shane Jennings had space at the far post to tap the ball into the Moyola Park net for the only goal of the first half.

In the opening minute of the second half Adam Gray headed just wide of  Paul Wells’  near post. The visitors were again caught napping from a corner kick on the right when Ryan Mullan headed powerfully to the visitors’ net. Within two minutes Chris Dowie brought Moyola Park back into the game when he scored with a fine glancing header despite Wells’ full length dive to his right. Two minutes later Dowie  found the Limavady net again with a well struck shot from close range to put the visitors back on level terms. However this parity was short lived as the Moyola Park defence once again succumbed from a corner kick with Bryan McClelland being on hand to head to the net through a crowd of players. Despite continuing to pose a threat to the home defence in the closing minutes Wells enabled his team to hold on until the final whistle.
